World Alzheimer’s Month

Wednesday, September 1 - 30, 2021

World Alzheimer’s Month is an annual international event, always held in September and

run by Alzheimer’s Disease International, (ADI).

Alzheimer’s Disease has been identified as an emerging public health crisis among African-

Americans. It is called the “Silent Epidemic” and is the fourth leading cause of death for

older African Americans. Black Americans are twice as likely as white Americans to get

Alzheimer’s Disease and tend to experience more severe cases. You are not alone. There are

help and resources available to people afflicted with the disease as well as to their

caregivers.

The aim of World Alzheimer’s Month and World Alzheimer’s Day (September 21) is to raise

awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s and dementia. Please take time to

learn about this devastating illness and we all can help to fight it and support someone

suffering from it.
